The 9th “OHTC Cup” Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship held in Tel Aviv

On May 23rd, The Final of the 9th “OHTC Cup” Global Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition for Overseas Chinese in Israel was held in Tel Aviv. This competition is hosted by the organizing committee of the 21st Western China Overseas Hi-tech and High Talent Conference, co organized by the Israel Learning Center, and has received strong support from China embassy in Israel.

PENG Sizhen, Minister Counsellor for Scientific and Technological Affairs with the Chinese Embassy in Israel, CHEN Quan, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, LI Guogui, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, SHI Yuewen, Director of the Tel Aviv Center of the China Cultural Center, President of MATAT Knowledge, recipient of the 2016 Chinese Government Friendship Award, Yossi Marek, the CEO of the Israel Learning Center David Pasder, and SONG Yanjun、CHEN Zi Han the Vice President of the The Organization for Assistance to Chinese Businessmen in lsrael, The Chief Editor of Chinese Headlines Israel Station XU Anqi, the Director of Israel China Import and Export Company CHEN Youcai, the Director of OPPO Middle East Israel Company Zhu Huijun, as well as over 80 local mainstream society and overseas Chinese attended the event.

This competition attracted a large number of applicants for innovation and entrepreneurship projects in the Israeli region. After preliminary selection, 6 projects obtained the final “entry ticket”. The organizing committee specially invited Motti Efratti, the CEO of the China-Israel Commecial and Culture association, Tal Peleg-Shulman, the Co-CEO of the Tel Aviv-HK Hub, David Fartok, the professor of Open University of Israel, Avner Barazani, former president of research and development at Machtashim Agan, and David Ascoli, the cyber Security expert, judges to evaluate the final project in the Israeli division.

After the day of the final roadshow competition. The first, second and third prize are be awarded respectively by PENG Sizhen, Minister Counsellor for Scientific and Technological Affairs with the Chinese Embassy in Israel, CHEN Quan, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, Yossi Marek, President of MATAT Knowledge. And LI Guogui, Vice Chairman of the Sichuan Overseas Friendship Association, SHI Yuewen, Director of the Tel Aviv Center of the China Cultural Center, David Pasder, the CEO of the Israel Learning Center presented the other three winning awards. All the award-winning projects will be invited to participate in the 9th “HOTC Cup” finals which will be held in Chengdu in September, competing against excellent projects from other regions around the world.

With the continuous promotion of major national strategies such as the construction of the Chengdu Chongqing dual city economic circle, the development of the Yangtze River economic belt, and  the large-scale development of the Western region in the new era, Sichuan will create broader development space, provide more development opportunities, and create a better development environment for everyone.

Since 2015, the “OHTC Cup” Global Overseas Chinese Innovation and Entrepreneurship Competition has been held for nine consecutive years, and activities have been carried out in Japan, the United States, Germany, France, Australia, Spain and other places for many times. Sichuan has cooperated closely with universities, incubators and venture capital institutions at home and abroad, successfully gathered a large number of core elements such as talents, technology and capital, and effectively promoted the successful integration of a large number of scientific and technological achievements with capital resources. After incubation, a number of projects have been approved as national high-tech enterprises and gazelle enterprises, which have been eagerly anticipated and actively participated by overseas professionals and leading talents, and become a global platform for scientific and technological innovation and transformation of scientific and technological achievements, effectively stimulating regional innovation and entrepreneurship vitality.

From 2015 to 2022, the eight sessions of the “OHTC Cup” competition attracted 3437 global high-tech entrepreneurship teams from 38 countries and regions to participate, with a total of 824 teams coming to Sichuan to participate in the semi-finals. Through “OHTC Cup”, a total of 222 projects were successfully connected and settled in Sichuan, including 60 companies established in Sichuan, 23 talent introductions and 139 technical cooperation projects.
