Jerusalem New Approach: Old City Cable Cart

Share

Jerusalem city will start a new cable car project which changes the landscape of Jerusalem: 40 cable cars, each can carry 10 people, across the 1400 meter route, estimated to carry 3,000 passengers per hour providing easy access to the Western Wall and other Jerusalem Old City attractions.

The cable car will solve the problem of overcrowded West wall entrance, allowing quick and easy entry for locals and tourists.
There will be four stations for the cable route: the Malka Train Station, HaMefaked Street, Mt. Zion and the Western Wall Station. The cable fare will be the same as a bus ride.

The cable car will pass through the Mount of Olives, reaching the Dung Gate.  The old city of Jerusalem and the historical ruins can be seen from the height. At present, due to the terrain of the old city, the internal passageways are narrow, steep, and impossible to expand.
The cost of the entire project will cost 200 million shekels, and is expected to begin operation in 2021.
The plan causes some objections, because the city will have to erect dozens of giant pillars close to many religious and scenic spots, such as the old city walls, churches and the Temple Mount.
